Tasting Notes

We are passionate about amari and all sorts of various bitters here at Astor and although they are rare, we can't say no to true alpine style amaro in particular a la Braulio. The invigorating, intensely herbal, spicy, savoury profiles make you feel like you are tens of thousands of feet up in the fresh air of the alps themselves. To have a very promising independent local producer like Faccia making one here in Brooklyn left us overjoyed. the flavor profile is true to form and producer Patrick Miller gets there with a mix of organic botanicals that include gentian, chinchona, cinnamon, orange zest, angelica, licorice root, wormwood, allspice, rhubarb root, cardamom, nutmeg, elecampane root, cloves, chicory, dark clover honey from upstate NY, sugar, salt.

Amaro Alpino evokes images of the foothills of the Italian Alps: wild flowers, pockets of snow, and the fresh scent of pine. Braulio is the godfather of this style, being from the Alps after all, but that doesn't mean others can't draw on that inspiration to produce captivating herbal amari. Faccia Brutto is a newcomer producer in Brooklyn. Their Amaro Alpino is almost Fernet-like on the nose and at the attack. Rich with cola and menthol turning into pine needles as it opens up. It becomes woodsy and makes me yearn for spring when exploring nature sounds fun again.
