After a grueling day of tasting rare wines and spirits and gabbing about them with like-minded people, (sounds AWFUL, I know), I like to wind down in a particular manner: booze, ice cream, and WQXR Classical Radio. Here's the thing... pairing booze with ice cream is tough because it's so darn sweet. Dessert drinks often have #EXTRA sugar content and a heavy, unappealing texture. Luckily, there's Branca Menta. This spirit starts out like its big bro, Fernet, with abundant fresh herbs. But the mint and sugar is amped up, lowering the alcohol level. The result is refreshing, medium-bodied, and free of artificial green hues. But the BEST PART? This hooch was created for the O.G. soprano Maria Callas, known to add a mint sprig and a sugar cube to her Fernet. So pour this over some Breyer's, and turn up that Puccini. È una cosa bella!
