Torrette, Grosjean Frères - 2022

Item # 15393 750mL

This Torrette bottling is one of two made at the estate. This is a blend of the indigenous Petit Rouge together with a varying amount of Vien de Nus, Doucet, Fumin and Mayolet. The vineyards are high altitude (550-650 m) and trained using the Guyot system, allowing the vines to drape down the terraced hillside. The wine ages in both stainless steel and oak casks.

Staff Pick Notes

The Grosjean family originally raised cattle and in the summer cultivated grapes and chestnuts. They produced wine but didn't start to get recognized until 1969 when they showed their products at a local expo. Since then they started to focus mainly on wine. They expanded their vineyards and now the five sons of Dauphin are running the business. They plant local varieties and they try to respect the land as much as possible; they use natural fertilizers and no pesticides. It's a fresh, delicious wine with notes of red fruit such as strawberry and cherry. It's delicious and earthy with a bright acidity. I would pair with cold cuts and soft cheese or with the amazing "polenta concia," polenta with melted cheese in it!
