Chinon, Philippe Alliet - 2021

Item # 21032 750 mL

Father-son team Philippe and Pierre Alliet are the proprietors of this small domaine in Cravant-les-Côteaux. The Alliets are part of a new generation of Loire winemakers dedicated to low yields, optimally ripe fruit, and fastidious vineyard management. From their 12-hectare domaine, they produce a stunning lineup of 100% Cabernet Franc wines starting with this bottle which was made with destemmed fruit and aged and vinified in cement tanks. Unoaked and comes from 45 year old vines.

Staff Pick Notes

Some Chinon have their arms folded when they meet you and can take years of aging to even begin to open up. But others, as exemplified by Domaine Alliet, wrap you up in a tender embrace from the moment the wine escapes from the bottle. To say this wine lacks the youthful stoicism of many of its touted peers is not to say it lacks complexity. I would simply state that quiet charm is its foremost attribute. It is pulpy, joyful and perfect.
