El Dorado 3 Yr. White Rum

I was recently given the chance to try this rum from El Dorado during my WSET classes. I had not given this much thought to this given Astor’s excellent rum selection. As my fellow classmates grimaced at the taste, I rejoiced at what is actually a more complex white rum than I initially realized. El Dorado has an illustrious history behind it. It is the only rum distillery still operating with their original production stills from the 18th and 19th centuries. They use both wooden pot and wooden coffey stills along with the renowned demerara sugar to produce absolutely superb spirits. Aged three years in ex-bourbon casks and filtered twice through natural charcoal, this is a medium bodied rum with notes of coconut and banana that boasts more character than most white rums on the market.
