Marzemino, the red grape that makes up 'Gaggion' from Contra Soarda, is most notable for its shoutout in the opera Don Giovanni, by Mozart himself: "Versa il vino! Eccellente Marzimino!" You should definitely pour this wine and it is in fact excellent! Mirco and Gloria Gottardi make wines that focus on utmost respect for the environment while beautifully translating the terroir. Rocky volcanic soil gives this bottle a rustic, violet-and-herbs bouquet while dark cherries and a dose of smoke and leather allow this red to be a staple for winter meals. Pair with butternut squash ravioli with sausage.
