Staff Pick Notes

It's always exciting to find a winemaker who's just starting out. Eva Fricke's first vintage in 2006 was made from just 300 liters of wine. While working with Johannes Leitz as his vineyard manager, she slowly started to piece together her own operation. Rising seemingly from obscurity, Fricke now owns six hectares, rents a winery, and releases wines under her own label from various vineyard sites. Fricke does not use the German VDP classification on her labels, choosing instead to focus on the quality of her fruit in the vineyard. Her Schlossberg site is technically a Grand Cru designation, but Fricke's main concern is that the striking acidity balances the ripe fruit flavors. It's a complex, age-worthy Riesling. We're excited to see these wines develop and to watch Fricke grow as a winemaker.
