Freisa del Monferrato, Oreste Buzio - 2023

750 mL
Item # 27715

Fresh and delightful, Freisa is ideal for all who love easy, fruity, lighter red wines. Bright strawberry and raspberry dominate the palate, confirming the jubilant berry aromas in the glass. A touch of dark spice roughens the texture a bit. Serve cool with rare meats, charcuterie, and sweet peppers with cheese. This wine has no oak contact and was vinified in stainless steel.

Staff Pick Notes

The Freisa grape is a varietal native to Piedmont and named from the Latin word for strawberry. As the name suggests, this bottle is full of red berry aromas and is fruit forward on the palate - not sweet, but very refreshing. On the finish I got a bit of pleasant spiciness and a touch of tannic grip, but it still works beautifully with a chill. A great pick for summer barbecues. Oreste Buzio has 5 hectares on the hills overlooking the Casale Monferrato valley and have been making wine since 1860 (and organic since 2001!) They believe in high quality organic wines that represent the authentic terroir of Monferrato, and were even recognized as a World Heritage Site in 2015 for being a landmark of cultural and historical significance. Check out their whole line up!

Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles:...
