Régnié, Julien Sunier - 2021

Item # 27826 750mL

A revelation of dried flowers and light spices, this Gamay gives delicately pressed raspberry fruit on the palate. Dense acids play well and can charm the pants off any real fan of Cru Beaujolais. We especially recommend Asian-spiced duck breast or braised turkey legs with chestnuts. Drink young to profit from the wine's youthful exuberance! This wine comes from vines planted in 1965 in sanded granite over a clay base.

Staff Pick Notes

On my first night in Paris at the end of June I walked into a beautiful wine bar called L’Hedoniste and asked the sommelier to pour me something off his selection that I probably hadn’t seen yet in NY. What I got was a breathtaking procession of the wines of Julien Sunier. I had never had these before and my first thought was how incredible they were. My second thought was how upset I was that I wouldn’t be able to find them in NY. Well, problem solved. This remarkable Régnié is full of geranium scents, crushed fruit, and sweet spice, with exuberant freshness, dry tea tannins, and minerals. Always exciting, incredibly versatile, and full of character, it is a wine to enjoy again and again.

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is the classic expression of the Gamay grape. These red wines (labeled simply “Beaujolais”) are approachable, grapey, and fun – ideal for low-pressure sipping. Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
