Whiskies of Scotland Invergordon Scotch - 2007

750 mL
Item # 31910

Established in 1961, Invergordon is a leading distillery in the highlands of Scotland making superb grain whiskey. While much of this is destined for the legendary blends of the industry, we were able to secure some exquisite vintage single grain and had it bottled exclusively for us. Utilizing a set of vintage Blair's Coffey stills, the spirit is fresh, clean, and full of malty, creamy character. Candy corn, Madagascar vanilla, and toasted grain jump out while secondary notes of honey and lilacs add a welcome dimension of depth to this seven- year-old whisky. After some more time in glass, further notes of lemon balm and parchment round out the profile. Overall, this is a great opportunity to get your hands on some rare malt from an under-the-radar award-winning producer.

Staff Pick Notes

This single grain Scotch Whiskey from the Invergordon grain distillery in North Inverness, to me, tastes like 100% corn but really not like Bourbon. Full of flavor and nuance, not as woody as a bourbon nor as medicinal as Scotch, the Invergordon takes the best of both worlds and gives you the perfect spring and summer sipper. Like many items at Astor, here is a totally unique bottle that you can't find anywhere else at a great price that over delivers flavor, place, and charm. For me, the corn flavor is present but it's not yet at the point of candy corn, even with wonderful hints of vanilla, light but full in flavor.

More About This Spirit

Scotch

As a synonym for Scottish, some people object to the term “Scotch” – but as far as their whisky goes, the Scottish people are required by law to classify the spirit as “Scotch whisky.”

Scotland

History:Distillation was brought to Scotland from Ireland by missionary monks in the 6th century. In 1644, the first taxes were imposed on Scottish distillers by England, with the result that most of the nation’s whisky was soon distilled illicitly. With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper. Distilleries started to take out licenses, and since then, the distillation industry in Scotland has been continuously expanding....
