Barale Fratelli has owned and farmed vineyards in Barolo since 1870, organically farmed for at over a decade, certified in 2016. It is now in the hands of Eleonora and Gloria, the fifth generation of the Barale family. All of their wines are extremely popular at Astor for good reason - they are all wonderfully expressive of Barolo and Nebbiolo in general, as well as structured and concentrated enough to age for years. If you're looking for a bottle that's ready to drink now, I highly recommend picking up the 'Bussia' Riserva 2017. Aged for 5 years before release, this wine is showing notes of development such as dried violet, stewed cherry, and fine leather. On the palate it is still bursting with berries and herbs such as thyme, and the tannins have integrated elegantly. Pair with Peking duck for a magical experience.
