Staff Pick Notes

Say yes to this uniquely layered white blend from the idyllic Mendocino Valley. This masterful blend of five varietals highlights 40% Arneis, offering beautiful aromatics of chamomile and white flowers. "The Bee" is enlivened by a mildly lubricating slip in texture, combated by a bright, approachable acidity on the finish. Like a Cirrus cloud speared by a ray of light, it is something to behold. This is an easy sipping medium-bodied white wine which could pair beautifully with sea salted burrata, grilled peasant bread drizzled with clover honey, and sliced blood orange.

More About This Wine

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.

Favorita

A lesser-known Piedmontese white grape, recently found to be genetically identical to Liguria's Vermentino variety. It produces fine white wines with a firm grounding of minerals.

Erbaluce

This white variety, grown in northern Piedmont's Caluso, produces refreshing, light, dry varietal wines. It's best known, however, for its hard-to-find, sweet rendition: Caluso passito.

Arneis

A white grape variety cultivated almost exclusively in Piedmont. Compared to most wine grapes it has a low acid content, and it was once used to soften the mightily tannic red Nebbiolo. It is occasionally called "Barolo Bianco" by acolytes. Unlike red Barolos, however, wines made from the Arneis grape nowadays are usually meant to be consumed while quite young. They are typically dry and exquisitely perfumed.
