From preeminent American craft distillers St. George comes this gentian based bitter liqueur that delivers new dimesions of flavor and complexity to a very traditional category. It took them a while to get here and having achieved the unthinkable, it is only fair that Lance Winters and team are keeping their propietary recipe to themselves. Instantly one of the best new entries into this category don't waste time mixing this into your bitter and sodas, Negronis, spritzes, Manhattans and beyond.
Bruto is the Campari killer. Making as many negronis as I do, I love to mix up the traditional recipe with St. George's bitter analog. It's less expensive and less sweet - evocative of Campari's old recipe. The color is a more muted and earth-toned red consistent with its flavor profile; gentian root renders the bitter citrus bite somewhat less sharp, mellowed further by earthy forest herbs, cinnamon, clove, and sandalwood. Try it in your next negroni or boulevardier, with soda, or on the rocks with an orange twist.
California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
