Tasting Notes

Nikka is one of the premier distillers in the world. The level of quality they bottle by masterfully blending from the thousands of varieties of whisky the make is nearly unmatched and each expression truly represents the quintessential nature of the best of Japanese Whisky. The long awaited re-release of Miyagikyo single malt lives up the the caliber we have come to expect from this picturesque sight nestled deep in the mountains near Sendai. Fruit forward, with a touch of peat, the whisky is brought together by a healthy dose of sherry oak with notes that include lemon meringue, poached pears, cherry blossoms, salted caramel fudge, white pepper, roasted hazelnuts, cinnamon and more.

Staff Pick Notes

To create harmonious food you have to marry a spectrum of flavors together. Nikka’s re-release of Miyagikyo is an excellent example of this principle. Lightly peated malt combined with the richness of sherry aging makes for incredibly satisfying and elegant whisky. Aromas of crushed vanilla beans, roasted hazelnuts, and banana custard. While the palate is full of rich malt, mouthwatering spices, and just enough peat to satisfy. There are plenty of whiskies out there that bash you over the head in hopes you’ll remember them. The whiskies you actually remember are the ones that are greater than the sum of their parts.
