Tasting Notes

A bold and distinctive rum from a man who does not play games or cut corners when it comes to bottling seriously good spirits. Using selected aged stocks of Jamaican pot still rum and demerara rum from Guyana, the spirit was bottled at the traditional navy strength of 57% ABV. Notes include tropical fruits, spices, tobacco, vanilla and smoke.

Staff Pick Notes

The idea behind Navy Strength spirits come from a 300 year tradition of the Royal British Navy giving every seaman a daily spirit ration. The sailors got rum and the officers got gin, but this was in the time before they were able to accurately measure the ABV of spirits. So they had this rule that if they mixed it with gunpowder and it would not light, then it was safe. Years later, they found that level to be 57% and so it has become a marketing term. Here is a wonderful rum on its own merits. The most striking thing about this rum is that despite the high proof, the nose is all fruit and caramel aromatics and not a hint of alcohol. This is a rum that is rich and intense, but not hot. Perfect for cocktails or your rocks sipping pleasure.
