If you're a fan of Loire wines, Olga Raffault needs no introduction.The winery is famous for its reds (Les Picasses is one of the all-time great Loire wines).Their whites, however, are much less known. Probably because of their minuscule amounts. Out of 24 hectares of vines, only 1 is planted with Chenin. But what a site 50-year-old vines on limestone-rich soil just west of Les Picasses. Olga's granddaughter, Sylvie, and her husband Eric are at the helm these days, but are continuing the tradition of organic farming and minimalist intervention. The grapes are hand harvested, gently whole-cluster-pressed, fermented with native yeasts and aged on the lees. You'll find beautiful aromas of ripe pear and apple, while on the palate citrus notes & wet stones come to the fore. It's a wine that can age, but drink now with cheese or roast pork.
