Sauvignon Blanc "LBL," Noëlla Morantin - 2017

750 mL
Item # 39409

Fans of elegant Sauvignon Blanc, don't miss out on this wine. In 2015, winemaker Noella Morantin was able to purchase old Sauvignon Blanc previously belonging to Clos Roche Blanche. The wine had a long fermentation in barrel and spent time a year aging in bottle. Now it is finally ready to drink and it is stunning. Lush citrus flavors, incredible texture, depth and complexity.

Staff Pick Notes

Noëlla Morantin is a bad ass. The term is used pretty loosely today so allow me to explain: Noëlla is a hustler (also over used but viable). She grew up in a coastal town where she started making wine as a hobby in 2001. She then quit her marketing job and interned with the mystical wine whispers Agnès and René Mosse. She now has her own land where she farms by instinct. Her wines are natural, one with their environment. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc tastes like taking a drive in the Flinstones car in the Loire valley. Your face nah tongue is the windshield and you're picking up everything. The earth, the brine of the air. Lucid dusty notes that send you reeling (can't you tell by the Flinstones reference.) It costs a pretty penny but it's absolutely worth the experience.

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

(It’s a somewhat odd way of pointing out herbaceousness in the wine.) Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...
