Staff Pick Notes

Nestled into the rolling hills of southeastern Sicily, Winemaker Pierpaolo Messina presents to us his wonderful wines. Marabino, “land of the beloved sun.” From the white limestone soil, and a unique microclimate influenced by two seas, all of the wines I have tasted from this estate have been attention grabbing and palate pleasing, to say the least. Rosso di Contrada is a wine of 100% Nero d'Avola. From biodynamic vines and natural spontaneous fermentation, this is a glass of abundant character. The winemaker holds the wine in cellar for 12 months in bottle, giving it a calm and developed deep ruby in the glass. Notes of potpourri, a musky clove and dried black cherry bring a rustic profile.
