Cor Cor Okinawan Rum Red Label

Item # 41253 750mL

Although this is the molasses based rum in the Cor Cor line, it remarkably retains a fair amount of qualities associated with agricole, chief among them a grassy, olive like aroma. But aside from that the rum is full of its own unique character with flavors of macadamia, a medley of peppercorns, bitter lime and faint hints of tropical fruit. A slightly mind-bending and completely worthwhile experience.

Staff Pick Notes

Attention rum heads and aficionados of all things off the beaten path: Here's a rum made on the small island of Minamidaitojima, just west of Okinawa. The first sniff presents aromas resonant of Jamaica pot still rums with bruised, over-ripe tropical fruits. Super funky, just how I like it. Underlying this initial punch of funk is something wholly unique - a savory, almost umami-like quality difficult to pin down...sawdust? Cured meat? This rum is made from from locally grown sugar cane. The molasses is distilled only once to preserve as many of the flavors as possible. On the palate it reminds me of some agricoles - fresh, green and clean (another curious trait since the distillery also makes a sugar cane juice bottling). What an intriguing spirit, sure to delight those who love sensory adventure!
