"Il Baratto" Bianco, Mani di Luna - 2022

Item # 41525 750mL

Il Baratto is the name of an ancient vineyard that is high in elevation and on terraced slopes composed of sandstone. A blend of local grapes that were foot trodden and then fermented with ambient yeasts. The aging took white place in steel tanks over the lees for half a year before bottling. This is deliciously accessible and for those craving an Italian white with great character.

Staff Pick Notes

I LOVE Italian white wine!! This Trebbiano Toscana blend is what I would classify as a winter white. Very herbaceous on the palate, notes of fresh earth dusted thyme and the wood stocks of rosemary. Delicious white peach nectar that gleams as it runs down supple skin. Also I would go as far as soft bruised yellow plums, maybe even some raw almond notes to boot. The perfect wine to curl up with after a long chilly day. I mean you don't NEED to pair it with food but some antipasto will send the heart positively swooning. Creamy, runny goat cheese brie with Castelvetrano olives (the ones WITH the pits {really, is there any other kind}) and some thinly cur prosciutto, ugh, so delicious!

Glossary

Riesling

Though the trend is now in the other direction, for many years Riesling was known for producing wines with little alcohol and some residual sugar - too sweet for many modern wine drinkers. Though it's now cultivated worldwide, Riesling is nearly synonymous with German wine, and that country's winemakers have lately begun to produce some very exciting dry versions. They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...

Umbria

This rugged inland province is famous not only for its wines but also the fine Umbrian truffles that are harvested here each year. Umbrian winemakers have worked tirelessly for the preservation of one of Italy’s least-known noble grapes, Sagrantino. Responsible for the eponymous Sagrantino di Montefalco as well as being a component of Rosso di Montefalco, Sagrantino has the power and structure of the biggest wines in Italy, yet still shows opulent fruit redolent of mixed wild berries. The Rosso...
