Among the treasures of Cognac are the rare old fortified wines known as Pineau des Charentes. While ubiquitous in the region and growing in popularity, most of it is consumed young á la rosé ice cold from the fridge as an apéritif or in cocktails. Very, very few artisan houses still carry on the tradition of long and slow extended maturations in barrel, like Guillon Painturaud. Like the terroir for their cognacs, they are perfectly suited for a long vintage dated aging of this special drink. This 2002 vintage bottling is based on red grapes and resembles something between a great tawny port and a vin santo. Pairs exceptionally with cheeses. Limited one-time offer.
