Staff Pick Notes

Pikasi is a negociant owned by former ballroom dancer Matic Rodica, hence the romantic streak to the labels. They work with family-owned vineyards in several regions of Slovenia. This white is made from Pinela in the Vipava Valley in the western side of the country. It's an indigenous grape (which may or may not be related to Pinella from the Friuli and Veneto regions of Italy) known for zesty light- bodied wines enjoyed young. The nose and palate are full of meyer lemons, citron flowers and key limes. The freshness is palpable. Aged on the lees in only stainless steel, it's as lively and buoyant as a long evening. An excellent apéritif that can stay on to pair with mains. The aromatic notes will mirror greens nicely or cut through heavier dishes. An arugula salad with bratwurst and white beans with a glass of this Pinela was spot on.
