This is the Dupasquier domaine's top wine. From the village of Amavigne in the Savoie, this steep-sloped vineyard is considered the finest, and is planted to Roussette. The clay and limestone soils see excellent drainage and a favorable aspect. The richness of this medium-bodied dry white wine comes from deep concentration, native yeast fermentation, and used oak barrel aging on the lees. This is further aged in bottle for much longer than is generally common in the Savoie, giving texture and aroma that is superb. Pair with roasted fowl, pork stews, and Hunanese cuisine.

Staff Pick Notes

Marestel is one of four crus in the Roussette de Savoie AOC south of Lake Geneva. The terroir is rich in limestone and these sun-drenched slopes on the western side of Mont du Chat are some of the best sites for growing Altesse, which is known as Roussette here. The vines are low yielding, and the wine is aged in neutral barrels longer than most Savoie wines, giving it verve and depth. The practices at Dupasquier are very traditional, and thankfully fifth-generation winemaker David plans to keep things that way. These wines are great just as they are. Lovely tropical flowers and fruits abound on the palate, with a stone-like coolness and an unctuous quality. An excellent wine to pair with dishes like spicy beef noodle soup or Chinese eggplant.
