Vin de France Rouge, Dom. Pinelli - 2020

750 mL
Item # 44932

Marie-Charlotte Pinelli comes from a lineage of Corsican winemakers that gave up the trade a generation before her. After decamping to a little place called Paris for her studies, she was lured back home to give winemaking a shot. This exceptional red blend of Grenache, Sciaccarellu, and Niellucciu is light in color and body, aromatic of red fruit, herbs, and is very savory. The tannic structure is strong, and this wine is best at the table. Pair with Coriscan boar stew.

Staff Pick Notes

Domaine Pinelli is shaking things up in Corsica. They're tiny with just 5 hectares of vines planted in limestone and granite-rich soils near the north coast of the island. The person responsible for this distinctly modern wine is Marie-Charlotte Pinelli who entered the wine world when she was just nineteen years old. This bottle is labeled 'Vin de France' as it's made outside of the regulations of the Patrimonio AOC. The blend of grapes are Niellucciu (a local clone of Sangiovese), Grenache and the indigenous Sciaccarellu. It's generous with dried cherry, garrigue, and hard candy on the nose, and a refreshingly dry palate. Those herbal fruit flavors are accented with a savory kick and sharp acidity. It's an effortless wine that would be just as comfortable in a hip restaurant as on the dinner table on a Sunday afternoon.
