From the powerhouse distillery of Islay, more than others, this sight may be more emblematic of what defines the style of this island more than any other. Independent bottlings have become a bit rarer as have even special distillery releases so anything new, especially vintage cask, single cask, full proof bottlings like this, should never go unnoticed. Aged entirely in a single hogshead cask the whisky expresses notes of salt infused sea breeze, cultured butter, freshly baked bread, dried chiles and baking spices.

History:Distillation was brought to Scotland from Ireland by missionary monks in the 6th century. In 1644, the first taxes were imposed on Scottish distillers by England, with the result that most of the nation’s whisky was soon distilled illicitly. With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper. Distilleries started to take out licenses, and since then, the distillation industry in Scotland has been continuously expanding....
