Bugey Gamay, Thierry Tissot - 2020

Bugey is a world class wine region hiding in plain sight. One of the least known inside or outside of France it's only recently started popping up on wine lists and store shelves state side. The region is along the upper Rhône river east of Savoie (which it is often grouped with) and not far from Beaujolais and Jura. It shares wine grapes with each of those regions yet retains it's own sub-Alpine identity. Bugey is perhaps best known for semi-sweet sparkling rosés, but there's an abundance of high quality whites and reds as well. This single vineyard Gamay from fifth-generation producer Thierry Tissot has all the best qualities of a cool-climate food wine. It's light bodied, full of crisp red fruits and perfumed herbs with mineral notes and nice acidity. A wine to drink with a mushroom quiche or Bresse chicken.
