We can throw countless superlatives at them but simply put, all of the whiskies coming out from Bushmill's are so good. This new 12yr may actually be the best in the entire range by some measures, splitting the difference between the two ends of the portfolio stylistically and packing a serious amount of flavor with the generous age statement and triple cask matured approach. Primary maturation took place in a combination of ex-Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks before the whiskey was finshed in ex-Marsala Wine Casks, a rarity for whiskey in general, even more so for Irish, making this even more special. Packed with orchard fruits and honey glazed spiced savoury pies and hints of herbs and tobacco. An excellent dram.

Joining the Bushmills Distillery in 2004, Alex Thomas has spent the last 17 years making a name for herself. Starting in November of 2021, she became the Master Blender and was responsible for nurturing the Bushmills Distillery's 400-year history of whiskey-making and an extensive stock of malts with unique age statements, rare cask types, and finishes. The newly released Bushmills 12-year-old Single Malt Irish Whiskey showcases her talent. The whiskey is a blend of two single malts aged for 11 years, one in ex-oloroso sherry butts and the other in used bourbon barrels. To complete the maturation, the whiskey is transferred to Sicilian marsala barriques for 6-9 months. This whiskey is rounded and creamy with savory green tea and tobacco notes followed by dried apricots and red fruits, brown sugar, and roasted hazelnuts.
