Sousão is the name used in the Douro for the same grape know as Vinhão in Vinho Verde. This teinturier berry is most often used for Port production in the Douro, but in the hands of siblings Joana and Antonio Maçanita it shines as a unfortified gem. Very dark in color, with rich dark fruit and spice aromas, its medium body and good acidity belie its appearance. Pair this dry red Cozido à Portuguesa.
