Gordon & Macphail Cask Strength Single Barrel Caol Ila 14yr Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky - 2003

Item # 47752 750mL

Outside of the distilleries themselves, few entities if any have the history and respect that Gordon & Macphail command. It is why they are the most trusted entity when it comes to bottling rare casks from the most important names in Scotland, like this one. Using spirit aged exclusively in 2003 at Caol Ila Distillery, the decision was made to bottle this single first fill Bourbon Barrel after 14yrs of aging in September 2018. Bottled at a natural cask strength. More well rounded and less angular than contemporary Caol Ila, powerful and purely Islay, this is a magnificent value in rare Scotch. Very limited.

Staff Pick Notes

If you know you like Scotch, it is time for you to explore Independent Bottling. The flavors and styles that have taken you this far are available in spades! Good chance that a house of whiskey you already know and love is out there in an Independent Bottling. Gordon & MacPhail is the oldest Independent Bottler in continuous operation in Scotland. This cask of Caol Ila was distilled and entrusted to G&M in 2003. It spent 14 years aging in Bourbon Barrel before release in 2018. Bottled at 112 proof (56%abv) this Single Barrel release is busting with warm, inviting peat smoke. The yield for this limited release was 192 bottles. There is no chill filtration or color additives. This outstanding whiskey takes everything I love about Isle scotch and turns it up to 14.

Glossary

Scotch

As a synonym for Scottish, some people object to the term “Scotch” – but as far as their whisky goes, the Scottish people are required by law to classify the spirit as “Scotch whisky.”

Scotland

History:Distillation was brought to Scotland from Ireland by missionary monks in the 6th century. With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper. Distilleries started to take out licenses, and since then, the distillation industry in Scotland has been continuously expanding....
