Zvari, Rkatsiteli - 2020

Georgian amber wines vary drastically, some being delicate & floral while others are quite dark & savory, with significant tannin. Each style is dictated in large part due to the amount of time the grape skins spend with the juice, while fermenting and during the aging process. The famous amphorae known as qvevri are the magic vessels that help create this transfer of color, aroma, flavor, and texture, allowing the wine to develop more personality earlier in the winemaking process. Zvari, a label made by Okro's Wine (John Okruashvili), is a classic example of a ripe, aromatic style of Rkatsiteli that isn’t too savory or tannic, but still has an intense energy to it. There is a concentrated tropical fruit aroma (almost like a fruit roll up) that brings me back to childhood memories of summer, with hints of spice, nuts, and tea leaves!
