Arguably the most important bottling this producer makes - when Kilchoman became the first new distillery on Islay in over a century more than a dozen years ago now, they did so with the intention of reviving the long tradition of farm distilling. For 100% Islay, all of the barley for this 13th edition was grown on the island, floor malted by hand at the distillery and the green malt was smoked with local peat. The minimum age of the whiskies selected for this limited release is 8yrs, drawn from 44 Bourbon barrels.

History:Distillation was brought to Scotland from Ireland by missionary monks in the 6th century. In 1644, the first taxes were imposed on Scottish distillers by England, with the result that most of the nation’s whisky was soon distilled illicitly. With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper.
