I love how certain beverages are made and enjoyed throughout the world. We have gin, vodka, and whiskeys that span the globe. It's time to meet Oka's sweet vermouth from Japan. It starts with a Sake base that is fortified with rice shochu. The botanicals are uniquely Japanese and include bitter mugwort, citrusy yuzu and kabosu, sansho peppercorn, and ume green plum. The flavors are exotic yet approachable. On its own, I found it fresher, and more fruit forward than others I’ve tried. I then tested it in a Tonic Spritz, Negroni, and Manhattan and loved each of them because it provided a nice counterbalance of acidity. It is a great addition to building a complete bar.
