Staff Pick Notes

The vines used for this wine are planted in Saint-André where the producer lives. Interesting fact: a carterole, the name of the domain, is a small barrel that fishermen used to hold their daily ration of wine. The father of the producer was a fisherman and used to drink from those barrels. The landscape surrounding the vineyards is arid and steep and everywhere you look you can see the beautiful Mediterranean sea. Joachims practices organically and tries to respect as much as possible the natural eco-system. This wine is well structured with flavors of strawberry, cherry and pepper, all supported by a nice acidity. Fruity and fresh!

Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
