Anna and Stephan Reimann are lifelong horticulturalists who decided to dedicate themselves to wine. In 2016, they were presented the opportunity to purchase an estate in Kanzem, on the side of the Saar River. Their dreams were fulfilled. The famous German steep slopes give the vines maximum sun exposure, but make cultivation rather treacherous. Everything must be done by hand. Just the way the Reimanns like it. Wawen is a village a few miles west of Kanzem, where the Reimanns were able to acquire a plot. Their Riesling from Wawen blew me away. It’s a wine of depth and opulence. It shows a rich viscosity and a golden complexion. It is packed with layers and layers of flavors. Aromas and flavors of key lime, melons, pear, honey, wildflowers, ginger will appear on the nose and palate. It’s as satisfying a wine as I’ve had in a long time.
