Sicilia Bianco, IDDA - 2024

In the pantheon of Sicilian wine, Mount Etna is a veritable Mount Olympus, where volcanic soils, abundant sunshine, and cool evenings spawn bright and beautiful wines. However the true throne of Zeus - the pinnacle of Sicilian winemaking - lies just the south of the mountain summit with the wines of Idda. Idda (local slang for “she,” a term of endearment for the mountain) emerged in 2016 as a union between Tuscan winemaking legend Angelo Gaja and local hero Alberto Graci to explore the terroir between the towns of Biancavilla and Belpasso. Idda’s white, made from 100% Carriacante grown ~2,000 ft above sea level, is picture perfect: aromas of Meyer lemon, ripe stone fruit, and jasmine give way to rich and complex palate, with subtle herbal notes mixed with beautiful, bracing minerality. Pair with bountiful feasts and visions of greatness.
