Marqués de Cáceres, Crianza - 2022

750 mL
Item # 50384

The vineyards are located near the epicenter of winemaking in La Rioja Alta. Aged in French and American oak, a portion of which was new, this has sweet spice aromas. Lusciously fresh and fruity on the palate with strawberries and raspberries. A lovely accompaniment to paella, chorizo, or ham.

Staff Pick Notes

Marqués de Cáceres, Crianza will definitely become a staple dinner wine for me, especially in the fall! A truly great value bottle: the price, quality, and drinking experience are all easy and enjoyable. Although it is a 2021 Crianza style that has been aged at least a year in barrel, neither the oak nor the tannic structure is too overbearing- just smooth red fruit flavors, elegant vanilla oak aromas, and a nice chocolatey note to finish. My friends and I enjoyed it with turkey chili, and I'm excited to experiment with pairing this very versatile and fresh Rioja. Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres focuses on excellent quality while working with old vineyards, completely manual harvesting, and tailoring their vineyard plots to each wine's specific exposure, altitude, and soil needs. They can definitely consider me a new admirer!

More About This Wine

Spain

Central to the Spanish winemaking philosophy is the belief that wine should be released only when it is ready to be consumed, and not a moment before. Tempranillo is often used in blends with Bordeaux grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and has lately been grown with considerable success outside of Spain, in...

Rioja

The origin of Spanish winemaking, Rioja has been the benchmark for Spanish wines in the international market for over two hundred years, and remains so to this day. Tempranillo is the star of the red wines here, though its expression can vary wildly from producer to producer. Traditionally-styled Riojas tend to be subtle and soft, and often have high levels of acidity to ensure their survival through the lengthy ageing process. The more modern producers are making powerful, dark,...
