Bruichladdich 18yr Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

In the dog days of summer, I catch myself daydreaming of coastal Scotland, where rolling green hills meet the north Atlantic. But if you can’t escape the heat, a dram of Bruichladdich 18yr Islay Single Malt will do just as well. Bruichladdich is known for its commitment to both community and terroir: the company started working with a local farmer to grow the barley used in their scotch in 2004 and, in 2020, became the first certified B-Corp on Islay. This dedication is on display here: this bottle is the first distilled from local barley before aging in ex-bourbon casks and finishing in Sauternes and Port casks. The result is something truly special, with notes of honey, butterscotch, and orange zest that give way to a palate with tons of tropical fruit, brioche, and a soft, lingering finish. A perfect escape, even on a muggy August day.
