The comparisons of Armagnac to Bourbon, especially well aged rare Bourbons, make plenty of sense. We've been leading that charge for a decade now and fully understand the undervalued nature of this noble category, especially with the dramatic sea changes in the pricing and availability of certain American Whiskies. That said, when Armagnac is this old and this good, there is no comparison. It's completely in a class of its own.
From brandy distilled in the 1987 vintage, we tasted this out of a single cask while visiting the domaine last spring. After 36yrs of aging the spirit is still remarkably vibrant and high toned with glossy notes that remind us of sour cherry preserves, mandarin oranges, toasted coconut, ripe summer canteloupe, and a drying baking spice finish. Bottled at a natural cask strength with absolutely zero additives.
