From when it was first created in 1894 by Pasquale Vena, a pastry chef in Pisticci, Basilicata, Italy. Vena developed the recipe in the back of his biscuit factory, blending over 30 herbs to create a balanced and consistent flavor with citrus and floral notes. The accolades started shortly after and continued to follow, so much so that the brand was at a time appointed as the official supplier to the royal House of Savoy. It remains one of the only iconic 19th century Italian amaro brands that remains independent and family owned. This circa 1990s bottle is a glimpse into the glory of this storied house.
