Best batch of Tobala we have tasted all year? Yes, absolutely. Best we've ever had in our lives? Honestly - yes we think so too. At least that is the impression we are left with after re-tasting this when they arrived to New York. It was even better than we remember when we selected it back in January in Oaxaca, with creator Sandra Ortiz Brena.
Bottled exclusively for us for a lot distilled in 2022 in direct fire clay pot still in Yeguesia, Oaxaca yielding a total batch of only 70 liters - this is artisanal mezcal. The beloved floral notes this variety is known for front and center along with a deep minerality but the palate is really where you will be blown away experiencing this mezcal. The seamless, oily palate slowly unfolds with sweet notes of summer melons, kiwi, mango, wild strawberry, followed by a slow simmering spice and mouth watering finish.
This is the first ever batch of Tobala bottled exclusively for the States and we are honored to have it be an Astor Select exclusive.
