Our first and highly anticipated from this great and historic American Whiskey distiller. Distilled in the Spring 2019 season and bottled just before its 5yr birthday in Spring 2024 from a rare 100% rye mash all grown for the distillery at a single local farm. Bottled at a natural barrel proof. Arguably the biggest sleeper in the entire category of Rye Whiskey. This expression, and the distillery for that matter, remain inexplicably overlooked. All the better for us. Dark in color from the super premium custom made natural aged Kentucky oak barrels made for them and bursting with flavors you won't see in whiskies twice its age, this is simply peerless in near every way. Notes of cherry pie, blackberries, ginger cake, vanilla beans, espresso and hickory smoke ring out and linger on the palate.

There’s something special about straight rye: spicy, savory, and complex notes set it apart from its sweeter bourbon relative. Unfortunately, superb rye has been hard to find at a reasonable price. Enter ‘Old Pepper’ Astor Select Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, a spirit with a story as rich as its flavor. The 'Old Pepper' label was first produced by legendary distiller Colonel James E. Pepper and promoted as Kentucky's best whiskey. The distillery closed in 1958, but the rights were purchased by Amir Peay of Georgetown Trading Co. in 2008. Astor selected a barrel that was distilled in the 2019 and bottled in 2024 from a rare 100% rye mash grown for the distillery at a single local farm. Aromas of carmel and mint give way to a surprisingly rich palate with notes of chocolate, espresso, and a touch of smoke. Truly special.
