Pouilly-Fumé "Les Champs de Cri", Nicolas Gaudry - 2023

Pouilly-Fumé is one of the Loire Valley’s most distinguished white wines, produced exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc. The appellation’s name derives from the natural “smoky” character (fumé) imparted by the region’s distinctive silex (flint) soils, which lend the wines a delicate gunflint aroma and a striking mineral tension. Covering a mosaic of terroirs composed of limestone, clay, marl, and flint, Pouilly-Fumé expresses a remarkable balance between aromatic purity and structural depth. In youth, it shows notes of white flowers, citrus, and stone fruits, often with a subtle smokiness and saline edge. With age, the best examples gain complexity and texture, developing hints of honey, toast, and wet stone, while retaining a vibrant freshness.
