Originally from Switzerland, the Gessler family immigrated to Gascony in 1928. The area has winemaking history dating back to Roman times, and the vines for this dry white are 25 years old on average. Staff Pick Notes

If you're looking for a white wine from southwestern France that is not from Bordeaux, Gascony would be the next best place to look! Gascony is best known for its association with Armagnac, the region of France noted for its production of the eponymous spirit. Olivier Gessler's vineyard is also firmly rooted in the Bas-Armagnac cru, which is widely known for producing some of the highest quality Armagnacs of the three crus. This wine is a blend of Colombard, Gros Manseng, Ugnic Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. If you tend to favor wines that veer into delicious ripe-fruited territory, then this would be the one to go for. Expect flavors of pineapple, mango, peach, green apple, and lemon alongside subtle aromatics of white flowers. - Nick

(It’s a somewhat odd way of pointing out herbaceousness in the wine.) Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...
