Plantation Astor Select 12yr Single Cask Barbados Rum - 2011

Our first Astor Select single cask from the most important distillery on Barbados and easily one of the most important rum distilleries anywhere historically. This is home base for this brand and since they took over operations nearly a decade ago, it has been restored to its old glory, bottling some of the most complex, beautiful rums anywhere that overdeliver on value more than any other comparitive spirit. The classic Barbados blend of pot and column spirit was aged for 12 years, 4 of them tropically in ex-bourbon before being finished in French Oak at Ferrand's cellars in France. For a Barbados rum there are a healthy amount of esters and volatile compounds but the funk is balanced and buried in the otherwise beautiful, mature complex flavors. Notes include spiced honey, dried mango, toasted hazelnuts, pineapple and old aged tobacco - almost like a fine cognac. Absolutely zero additives.
