The Carignane grape has Spanish origins but has been planted in California now for generations. At the J. Rickards winery, a relatively new addition to their offerings of generous red wines. This is full-bodied and rich with black berried fruits and olives on the palate. Great tannins and dense fruit will make this an ideal pairing with braised chicken with fennel and olives.

Carignan

Grown all over Europe and the Americas, Carignan (a.k.a. Carignane, Carignano, and Cariñena) is seldom seen as a 100% varietal wine. Many appellations of Languedoc-Roussillon must include a certain percentage of Carignan, but it is rarely the dominant grape in these blends.
