This is no ordinary spirit as this Tsikoudia is a distillate from the marc, or pomace, of the Manousakis winery's Roussanne grapes - a fine white grape originally from the Rhône Valley. The grape vines are planted in schist, clay and sandy soils planted at 1900 feet in elevation. The marc was made with a single distillation in copper stills. Tsikoudia has a long standing history in Crete and is used not only as an aperitif, but also for it's therapeutic powers that locals believe it has.
