The Rums of Mexico Caldo

Rum is proving to be amongst the most exciting categories of spirits today. There is so much discovery of unknown but longtime distilleries along with newer and more modern artisans getting in on the act. Every continent is represented in our rum portfolio. Mexico has been amongst the forefront of this rum awakening. Orlando Vazquez is amongst the new generation of rum (called arguadiente) distillers. He’s a processor of sugar by trade who has honed his skills at distilling. He crafts his rum in Tlatetala in Veracruz, where a young rum tradition is being formed. “Caldo” is a beverage that squeezes the juice from sugarcane. It is the base of Vazquez’ distillate. The rum is seductive with sweet banana pudding flavors and aromas. A bit of charred corn, white pepper, and straw also show. I almost want this every day.
