Pommard 1er Cru "Clos des Epeneaux", Comte Armand - 2014

Item # 11710 750mL

Les Clos des Epeneaux is one of 10 large monopoles in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Situated at the heart of Grands and Petits Epeneaux, it posseses a strikingly different terroir than its neighbors. these are old vines, planted between 1930 and 1986 and every year, 4 - 5 cuvées are created based on the vines' ages. Clos des Epeneaux comes from vines averaging 55 years. Powerful, though graceful and fine all in the same instant, this Pinot Noir is the towards the height of what one can experience in Burgundy. A peppercorn, spicy nose is typical of Clos des Epeneaux

Staff Pick Notes

When on the outskirts of a forest you understand there is more beyond what can be seen. That is the best way to think about this Pommard. Give this a sip and be assailed by a bouquet of bouquets! Rose oils, violets, grape skins, and cracked peppercorns. Despite all this abundance you can tell there’s even more behind it all. The palate is stoic and rippling with muscle. At this age the Pommard’s sturdy fruit is just beginning to soften. Tart berries and thick skinned cranberries. It’s impressive yet you know there is something grander beyond the fore. While none of us may ever know this wines true breadth, it still such a privilege to take in what you can.

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
