I absolutely love Valpolicella Classico Ripasso. You get the opulence and complexity of an Amarone...for far less. Made by adding the pomace of Amarone during fermentation, it imparts the Amarone flavors and allows the finished wine to be richer. This wine from Domini del Leone is such a treat with it's rich black cherry and vanilla notes. It gives a slight suggestion of sweetness though it is technically a dry wine. I enjoy it best on cozy nights when I've made the excellent decision to have cheese, cured meats, and bread for dinner instead of cooking.
