Bianco della Castellada, La Castellada - 2008

Bianco della Castellada is an Italian white from the hamlet of Gorizia in Friuli just near the Slovenian border. The Castellada estate was started in the 1980s and is named after the said hill of Oslavia. A preference for more natural techniques is what's in play at this small, family-run estate and there is a good amount of skin contact on this wine which is a blend of Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. After fermentation, the wines rest in barrel for well over a year and then is aged in bottle before release. Eccentric, soulful and polarizing in style as this does qualify as an orange wine.
